Yalmaz Siddiqui
Yalmaz Siddiqui, Director of Environmental Strategy for Office Depot. He is responsible for setting strategic direction and integrating a wide range of environmental programs into the global organization. Office Depot’s industry-leading environmental programs span all parts of the company - from supply chain (buying green) to internal operations (being green), to business and consumer markets (selling green). Yalmaz’s internal role is to initiate, facilitate and communicate environmental programs that are then implemented through Office Depot’s core functions such as merchandising, purchasing, construction and marketing. He also helps educate suppliers and customers on environmental issues and opportunities. His goal is to help improve the environmental performance of Office Depot and its range of stakeholders. Yalmaz came to Office Depot from IBM Business Consulting Services where he was a Senior Consultant in Customer Relationship Management, and author of the first global study on environmental purchasing of wood and paper products. Before IBM, he was a management consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he focused on the forest, paper and packaging industries. Yalmaz holds a Master of Philosophy in Environment & Development from the University of Cambridge in England where his thesis focused on Industrial Ecology, Life Cycle Analysis and Bio-mimicry. He also has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Marketing & International Business from McGill University in Canada. Yalmaz is on the Board of Advisors of EPEAT (the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool); Chairs the Green Board of Delray Beach; is on the Steering Committee of the Green Products Roundtable; and was the only Private Sector recipient of the Responsible Purchasing Network’s 2009 Responsible Purchaser of the Year Award.
The Green Imperative: Why a green strategy is essential in Yalmaz will start by providing the audience with an overview of green today. He will share the latest insight on the green marketplace and help the audience better understand the green drivers in their respective industry sector as well as green customers. Yalmaz will also help professionals develop an economic case for a green business strategy as well as the environmental case. Finally, he will speak to developing a green strategy and utilize Office Depot as the Case Study. He will discuss: Why green for Office Depot? And our environmental strategy to Increasingly Buy Green, Be Green (and Build Green), and Sell Green. Yalmaz will end the presentation with instructions and tools for how businesses can begin to green their own company.
